Old Habits Die Hard

It’s funny how, no matter how far you progress and evolve, every once in awhile, you fall back into an old habit.

I’ve worked hard to try and set boundaries for myself.  Trying my best not to say yes to everything someone proposes to me, rather saying I will get back to you and think about whether or not I actually want to do said thing.

Last night, after a stressful swim club practice (where old dudes kept running me over and one of them slammed into me, leaving a big welt on my forearm), I said yes to something that I wouldn’t have normally and now I am totally and completely regretting it.

The good thing about this is that it serves as a reminder that I need to be diligent on this whole boundary setting thing.  It will also serve as a way to improve my boundary setting as, despite agreeing to this thing, I am going to make sure I do what I need to do…not just follow along.

There is one other teeny, tiny silver lining – that is that with my work schedule and the way things typically happen, I’m guessing that this commitment may fall through the cracks sooner rather than later.

Do you have any old habits that pop up every once in awhile?  Are you good at setting boundaries or do you still struggle?

  1. Boundaries are hard. I preach the importance of them but the truth is, I’m a therapist and there are still times I have issues with boundaries. Keep working on them though! I’m sure you’re doing great!
