25 Days Left of the Run Hiatus

As of today, I am just over half way through my self imposed running hiatus, which started as an attempt to let my mysterious core/groin/whatever it is heal.

I snuck in one run since I started the hiatus the day after the Pixie Dust Challenge (May 11).  Probably a good idea as I ended the Pixie Dust Challenge looking like this: Notice the super tough looking ice pack wrapped around my stomach–hot right?  No wonder I am single!  YEESH!  Anyway, I digress.  That run I snuck in meant I could barely get out of bed the next morning.  Fortunately it was short lived and I’ve been avoiding running since…even if sometimes that has meant me not going to the gym.  I know…not great…but I’ve really been struggling lately as I had mentioned yesterday.

I am also a bit discouraged (and yet clinging to the last tendrils of hope) that the ultra sound I just had done for my injury will yield some sort of result and the hernia specialist (whom I see just before the run hiatus ends) can tell me what is going on.  The ultra sound doc told me that he didn’t see anything, but I need to see the hernia doc to make sure.  I will be honest–I don’t even care if it is a hernia anymore–I just want to know what it is and get it flipping fixed/healed already…especially since Dr. Google has given me an abundance of potential injuries and all of them say the only way to heal is to do nothing but rest for months on end.

In the meantime, I will continue my countdown along with “power walking” and mix it up with some skipping, cycling and maybe even some swimming.  Oh and weights–I should probably start doing some of those too. lol.

How do you keep sane on a run hiatus?  What are your favourite alternate workouts?

  1. I’m currently on a running hiatus as well – it’s been 17 and I’ve said that it has to last all of June. So far, I’m doing pretty okay because I’ve supplemented with the gym and my crazy trainer and I also took a spin class which helped the endorphins! Hang in there, buddy! We can do this!

    • Woot! Yes! I don’t have a trainer and the spin classes at my gym are scheduled at weird times, but maybe i can find a weekend class to work!

Good luck in surviving the hiatus Mer! Let’s hope we are both kicking arse and running real soon!
