Joining a Run Club

Hey hey!

So today I’m finally joining a run club….at 6pm today I’ll be running with my dear friend O at Assiniboine Park in Winnipeg as part of Winnipeg Run Club–which is being led by the director of the Winnipeg Fire and Paramedic Service Half Marathon (registration of this race also opens up today, by the way).  Given my injury I’m torn as to whether or not I should register for the half…plus I’m not sure if Grams wants to participate in the 10K again this year so she can win her age group again. lol  As far as I know, she has not received the ok to get back into fitness since she fell in January.

Grams celebrated her belated 80th birthday with a 22 minute improvement on her 10K time and winning her age group!

I’m looking forward to it because I haven’t run with a club since I trained for my first full–which is actually how I became friends with O.  Plus this running club is not related to the Running Room–which means no 10 and 1 intervals!  Though it does include a Lululemon run ambassador–and it’s a dude so there are no worries about his thighs touching #thighgap.

I didn’t run last night so I’m hoping me and O can just have a chill 10K run where we just shoot the proverbial sh!t and follow it up with a beer and likely some dinner….well, I am hoping for dinner because I would imagine that I am going to be starving by then. lol.

I’m also hoping to meet some other runners in the community–since I am used to running solo on a treadmill.  I know I want to get better and I think I’ve grown tired of the solo time on the treadmill and having people to run with and running outdoors, when you HAVE to run to get back (instead of just stopping a treadmill) will improve my physical fitness and most importantly my mental fitness.  I have a feeling this group might be particularly helpful when I come back after my forced time off for my ab injury, post-Tink.

Anyway, wish me luck!  Hope today will be fun one!

  1. Sounds like fun! I hope it works out for you. My local Fleet Feet does Saturday morning fun runs, and I’d love to go, but so far haven’t been able to drag my butt out of bed!
