Guess who is the newest resident of Taper Town?!
I’m actually kind of happy to be on my taper. Yesterday’s final long run of 9 miles (at a surprising 7:58 pace) was hard. I was checking my watch every few minutes in the hopes that my Garmin would say I was done. Alas, it did not.
Fortunately I had one of my run clubbers running on the treadmill next to me. It kept me going, knowing she was there working hard, starting her training for GSC and getting even closer to her goal of 50 miles in for the month of July. She only has 3 or 4 left til she hits her goal–I feel so proud. And, heck, I feel kinda proud of myself for not quitting.
My race is on Saturday morning. I will drive down to Minneapolis/St. Paul on Friday and head over to pick up my race kit…though, I will admit, part of me wants to just pick it up on race day simply because they want us there at 6:30 for a race start of 7:45…seems like a lot of extra driving for nothing, if you ask me…but the planner in me might win out and just go and pick it up on Friday. I might also hit up the Mall of America on Friday night if there is time…if only to walk around a bit and stretch my legs after 7 ish hours in a car.
I’m nervous. I really want my PR….but it’s also Minneapolis in August…which is normally crazy hot and humid…so I’m trying to prepare myself for the worst but also be ready to do my very best. If my training is any indication, I should make it, but one never knows what crazy things can be lurking…a bad day, too much wind, crazy humidity, heavy legs…again, prepare for the worst, but still do your best.
The next few nights I won’t be running a whole lot a few miles here and there. I will do one faster paced speedy run on Tuesday or Wednesday to keep the pep in my step, but every other run will be effortless and relatively short.
I will end my ramble now as the more I type, the more my nerves ratchet up and my heart begins to race. lol.
