Hey there! Happy Small Friday or, for me, Happy actual “Friday,” because I have tomorrow off of work! Hooray!
I’d like to start off our “Friday” with a celebration – Prairie Princess Runners is over 150 blog followers! Amazing! Thanks to everyone who stops by and reads! We aren’t even at our 1st birthday yet, so I know there are many more great things in store for our inaugural year!
I will be spending my day today refreshing my computer screen like it’s my job. I’m waiting to see if I’m accepted in the second chance lottery for the New York City Half Marathon, only 9 short weeks away. …Training mode will have to start fast… Anyone out there done this race? My BIL got in at the first drawing, so it would be exciting if we could run it together.
I’m hoping NYC 1/2 will pan out as one of my destination races for this year, but if YOU are looking for a new destination race, look no further than Calgary Marathon weekend, June 1st! This Top 10 list, courtesy of iRun magazine, just hit my inbox, and I had to share with you!
Here are ten reasons you want to run The Scotiabank Calgary Marathon in 2014:
1 | A Golden Anniversary only comes around once so the organizing committee is throwing one heck of a party at Stampede Park following the race. Not sure if you heard but they like to party in Calgary.
2 | Legendary belt buckle medal that will also opens your beer at the Wild Rose Beer Garden after you’ve earned it.
3 | Run through the decades and experience the sights and sounds of the 60’s 70’s 80’s 90’s. It’s never been done before in a marathon!
4 | Finishers receive a retro graphic technical shirt that is so cool your 15-year old son will want to wear it.
5 | There are five grand trip prizes to marathons across the continent for the best dressed if you want to pull out your retro running gear from another era.
6 | The Scotiabank Calgary Marathon is consistently voted Alberta’s Best Road Race by runners, 2013 2012, 2011, 2009.
7 | Bring the family – there is a race for every age and ability, The Scotiabank Calgary Marathon, Centaur Subaru 21.1K, Jugo Juice 10K or AstraZeneca 5K Family Walk and Run (the Wild Rose Brewery 50K Ultra is now SOLD OUT).
8 | You get to bang the ginormous Golden Anniversary gong if you P.B.
9 | The Rocky Mountains. You can even buy a registration marathon package that includes a day trip to Banff to celebrate your achievement at calgarymarathon.com.
10 | Cross Calgary off the bucket list. The New York Times named Calgary #17 on the top 52 places in the world to visit in 2014.
…I will be there with bells…err…neon short shorts and high tops?…on – I gotta find that perfect retro outfit! – and probably running the 10k. I’d love to run the Half, but I don’t think I can PR this 21.1, and I REALLY want to bang that Anniversary gong!! See you there, maybe??
