Back to the Grind

Morning!

I don’t know about you, but I found the last 13 days went by ridiculously quick.  I mean, it seems like yesterday I was still planning my baking schedule and finishing up last minute shopping and now it’s all done.  Talk about whirlwind!

In some ways, I am glad to go back to routine – as are my waistline and my sleep cycle.  Since I have been off I have had many late nights, early mornings and lots of opportunities to stuff myself silly with junk.  Thank goodness I was able to sneak in some good runs–including yesterday’s frosty Resolution Run that had a bubbly, champagne ending!

Why did I do this to myself?

I fear that it is going to be hard to get back into the groove. As evidenced above, it’s cold – really cold.  This type of cold does nothing for my energy level, on top of the fact that we still have very few hours of sun at this time of year. As a result, my hope for January is just to maintain my focus.  Get in my workouts and eat as healthy as I can.

This is what I’m hoping my workout schedule will look like for the next six weeks or so:

Day Workout
Sunday Long Run (8-9 miles)
Monday Easy Run with Run Club + Spin
Tuesday Tempo Run(6 miles) + Weights
Wednesday Easy Run (5 miles)+ Swim
Thursday Speed Work (3-5 miles) + Weights
Friday Easy Run (5 miles)
Saturday Tempo Run (6 miles) + Weights

I know I will struggle with the swims and the spin classes.  I am hoping to start with one time per week for each additional activity and build the habit in from there. I might have to re-arrange a few days too, especially with work travel–pools and spin classes won’t be so easy to come by, nor will normal treadmills or decent outdoor running weather.  On travel days, the priority will be running, with weights happening if the hotel I am staying at has decent equipment.

As I have said before, I’m not very good at sticking to really regimented training schedules…but this is my goal of sorts–days might shift, but generally I’m hoping for 4 harder days or running, 3 easier days, with some weights and cross training for a potential triathlon in between.

Take care and happy Small Friday (aka Thursday)!

P.S. Does anyone else keep thinking it is Monday or is it just me?

  1. I can’t keep any days straight anymore. It’s all a mess.

Am also happy to have some semblance of a routine but mostly want to be fully functional and have a good night of sleep. Gah!

  2. I definitely thought it was Monday all day! Even when we got home from work my husband was like “So what shows are on tonight?” and we both had an entire conversation about Monday night shows. At least tomorrow is Friday!

    • I’m hoping to do my first Triathlon this year–and I’m scared out of my tree to do it because of the cycling..and the transitions.

I find that my attempts to swim and spin are foiled by the lack of scheduling flexibility and the fact that I have to go to another facility and pay another significant gym fee to go swimming.
