I will be honest–this week has felt inexplicably long to me and I’m one, post-work, 5-mile tempo run away from enjoying the Canada Day long weekend.
In celebration of the first long weekend of the summer–I have made the following playlist for my tempo run. Since I’m hoping to have a 8:20ish pace, I’m going to make this playlist about 45 minutes long (45:06 to be exact) so I have some buffer time in case my feet aren’t feeling quite as fast as I want them to.
Lose Yourself by Eminem (the slow build always gets me going and allows for a nice warmup)
Intergalactic by The Beastie Boys (this is just a fun song and a nice transition piece)
I’m in Miami Bitch by LMFAO (reminds me of good times with my Aussie girls)
Starships by Nicki Minaj (just a fun pop song)
Dog Days Are Over by Florence and the Machine (who can resist her request to run fast for your mother, father, sisters and brothers? Not I!)
The Edge of Glory by Lady Gaga (just over halfway–truly on the edge of glory)
Stronger by Kanye West (it’s all about the chorus–keeps me running)
Gold on the Ceiling by The Black Keys (just a great song, peppy beat)
Paradise City by Guns N Roses (I become kind of embarrassing when this comes on–it’s like muted karaoke)
Radio Nowhere by Bruce Springsteen (I hope to be done by the time this song starts–but if it does start, the beginning just makes you want to run)
Happy Running and Happy (early) Canada Day!
P.S. If you have any recommendations for other songs–let me know in the comments!
I’m up and at ’em, packing my stuff and ready to hit the road during the Canadian long weekend. But I never ever skip breakfast (anymore!), and today is no exception! To fuel up for the 7 hour drive ahead of me today, I kicked off my morning with a green smoothie, as I do most days.
If you have never tried a green smoothie, this recipe is a good starter, because its taste is reminiscent of a familiar favorite: the Piña Colada!
Enter, the Green-a-Colada!
Green-a-Colada Breakfast Smoothie
Handful baby spinach
A few pieces pineapple (I used frozen, but fresh works too!)
Half a banana (again, I used frozen)
1/2 C skim milk
1 scoop vanilla protein powder (I use Body Fortress Vanilla Whey Isolate, available at Walmart)
Combine all of these things in a blender (Magic Bullet is my single-serving blender of choice) and mix. Add a straw and start sipping like you’re on the beach!
whoa! Check THESE out! I just had a photo emailed to me and was immediately excited. I HAVE to try them!!
adidas’ new Springblades are set to launch in stores (US only? – not sure. I hope not!) August 1. They showcase individually tuned blades on the sole that are intended to propel a runner forward, much the same as Reebok’s Zigtech and Mizuno’s wave plate technologies.
But mostly…I just think they look insanely cool. I’m not an adidas devotee by any means (shoe-wise, I generally wear Nike and Mizuno), but I would be willing to sport these sheerly for their cool factor alone. And, I will buy anything that comes in hot pink!!
